The Mustachioed Man of the Year
The Greatest Award of All Time
Award season has officially begun and thecheappop.com has done away with all the old categories. After much deliberation it was decided that artists should not be awarded for sheer talent but for what goes unsheared instead, the mustache.
The nominees are men chosen from not only film and television; but also music, sports and politics. There is no other award on the planet that could pool together such an eclectic grouping of people. “thecheappop.com is proud to start a new tradition, honoring those men who have some fuzzy goodness under their noses,” Jon Chattman, the site’s founder and senior writer/editor says.
Here are the nominees (in no particular order)
Josh Brolin: He sports a stache off-screen and in such films as No Country for Old Men, American Gangster, and The Valley of Elah.
Brandon Flowers: The lead singer of The Killers has rocked the mustache for over two years.
Daniel Day-Lewis: He’ll likely get a nomination for his brilliant turn in There Will Be Blood, but it’s his mustache that deserves accolades. There Will Be Mustache!
Jason Lee: My Name is Earl gets kudos for its sharp writing and terrific cast, but let’s give credit where credit is due: it’d lose half its appeal without the star’s signature mustache.
John R. Bolton: No, not Michael Bolton. This American diplomat brings class to his ’stache.
Philip Seymour Hoffman: No stranger to the mighty ’stache, this gifted Oscar winner sports some sprouts in the soon-to-be acclaimed flick Charlie Wilson’s War.
Jose Valentin: This likely former New York Mets star was injured throughout the year, but thank goodness he never shaved his perfect triangled ’stache. By far, a big league bert.
And Carlos Dengler: Guitarist for the band Interpol. Mad sexy.
The winner will be announced on December 22nd after votes by thecheappop.com users have been counted. The recipient will receive – nothing or as Chattman says “a proverbial pat on the back and tip of the cap.”
About thecheappop.com
Launched in October 2005, Jon Chattman’s thecheappop.com is devoted to A-to-Z list celebrity interviews, entertainment reviews, humor stories and inane short films. It also offers candid but tasteful celebrity photos, and an undying love of mustaches. Yes, we were the first site to embrace the comeback although we’re given no credit.

thecheappop.com, an entertainment and humor website known for its offbeat celebrity interviews, entertainment reviews, and mustache-centric content, is sending out a press release today that they have, in fact, sent out a press release. While the site has been around since October 2005, its founder Jon Chattman decided now was the time to distribute a release alerting the media that one had been written.
“The timing just seemed right for thecheappop.com to have its own press release for people to read,” Chattman explained. “Everyone at one point or another writes a release, but it takes a lot to take that release and then actually post it online for the world to see.”
Chattman, who also serves as head writer and managing editor, said he got the idea to write the release after perusing PRNewsWire.com, an online press release service he a few weeks ago. “So many other people do it, and it seemed easy and worth the money. It’s a great way for people to promote what they’re selling whether it’s - say a pair of pants - or, um, a website. It just gives credibility to something,” he said.
Chattman, who oversees a staff of a dozen, is hopeful the release is received positively. If so, he hasn’t ruled out sending out future releases - perhaps even one relating to the site itself.
“I’m certain I will write a release about the site,” he said. “thecheappop.com offers something for everyone: off-color humor for college kids, and celebrity interviews and entertainment reviews for pop culture junkies like me. And, while we’re not a social network, we do feature Q&As with ordinary people in our 16 Minutes section. Andy Warhol gave 15, we give an extra minute.”
As Las Vegas star and HGTV’s House Hunters host Suzanne Whang, put it, the site “is fresh, intelligent, funny and offbeat…Thank goodness someone’s approaching pop culture with wit and vim! Is “vim” a word?”
Site aside, Chattman doesn’t lose sight of the importance of the press release. “It’s cool to like write stuff, post it on a site, and then distribute it to tons of people who may or may not read it,” he explained.
