“Any true moustache devotee needs to travel to India.  In my seven months there, I saw as great a number of truly majectic facial stylings as any state-bound bum could possibly hope to see in a lifetime, and I couldn’t pick one out of the bunch.”

“Well, the best one ever without any shadow of doubt is Salvador Dali. There’s even a book on Salvador Dali’s mustache. It’s a fantastic surrealist book, and it’s available on reprint and I would recommend for you mustachees out there that you go straight to that book and rethink your position on your mustache. As you will see, Salvador Dali had many ideas of what one can do with a little wax.”

On whether the band ever considered a mustache?
“I don’t know that any of us have ever had a mustach. I think maybe John had a mustache for a little while perhaps when he was doing some of his solo stuff, and Simon definitely wins the unshaven award.”

Sure he made some rude comments on Saturday Night Live years back, and hasn’t exactly turned out wonderful movies as of late, but we can’t hold that against Martin Lawrence. The hilarious comedian and actor turns 43 today, and throughout most of that time, he’s had a wonderful mustache to match the big grin. Well, you know when he wasn’t in drag as Sheneneh Jenkins.

“Rollie Fingers. Growing up, his name was synonymous with the word mustache. I guarantee if you do a Google image search on “Best Mustache,” Rollie Fingers will be pictured at least five times. I’m going to do it. I’m doing it. Okay, two times. Pretty close. But the thing about Rollie Fingers is that his name sounded like what you would have to do with his mustache–’roll it in your fingers.’ Did he plan that?”

As it turns out, the actor, who plays good baddie Dale on the FX show - the best on TV as far as I’m concerned, sports a handlebar - or as he calls it the “Spurlock” mustache - in the upcoming Matthew McConaughey stoner comedy Surfer Dude. “Can we call that thing the Spurlock now? On a gloomy Tuesday afternoon, the cast and director of Semi-Pro, the new Will Ferrell comedy about the pre-NBA basketball league ABA, assembled together for a press conference in NYC to promote the film. We’ll have the full story tomorrow, but here’s a side’bert’.

During the course of the press conference, which was attended by co-stars Woody Harrelson, Andre “3000″ Benjamin, Maura Tierney, Will Arnett, and director Kent Alterman, I took to the mic and started a mustache exchange.

The question was relevant in that Arnett sports one helluva wonderful one as a foul-mouth sportscaster in it, and in the past, as we all know, Ferrell has rocked the ’stache as Ron Burgundy. The response was astounding- for me and the room of journalists anyway. Since the Semi-Pro, which opens tomorrow and is Ferrell’s second film with New Line Cinema (Elf being the other), I’ll give you the quick play-by- play. Read the rest of this entry »

We caught up with Hank Azaria during the press day for his new flick Chicago 10. His choice was an obvious - but no less stellar- one.
[Laughs]
“Wow. That’s a tough one. I gotta go with Burt Reynolds. How can you not go with Burt Reynolds? That’s the first thing that popped in my head.”

“One of my all-time favorite mustaches is Dick Dastardly. Now Dick Dastardly had a nice mustache, man. He had the loop on the side – the handlebar kind of thing going on. That’s the one I wish I could actually grow, but I just cant grow it like that. But you’d need devilish laugh to go with it. Maybe by time I get a little older, I’ll be able to grow it in.”

“I’m sure this is a very common answer, but I’m going to have to go with Tom Selleck having the best mustache ever, because it totally dominated anything else that he ever did. That’s all I will ever remember him for is that mustache first, and his Hawaiian shirt second.
